Thanksgiving traditions vary among families. For some, it is cooking a turkey with all the traditional sides and serving their family at the rarely used dining room table. Others enjoy taking a day off from cooking and instead enjoy a peaceful meal out. For the latter group, a variety of restaurants in South Bend and the surrounding areas will be open and ready to serve on Thanksgiving Day. Enjoy a holiday breakfast, lunch or dinner.
American Pancake House: Three locations: 1008 W. McKinley Ave., Mishawaka, 574-256-7220, and 508 N. Dixie Way, South Bend, 574-247-0810, will be open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; 425 W. Pike St., Goshen, 574-971-5727, will be open 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dine-in or carryout.
Applebee’s Restaurants: 6615 N. Main St., Granger, 574-273-0003, and 2225 N. Oak Road, Plymouth, 574-935-3066, are both open 4 to 10 p.m. with a limited menu.
The Barns at Nappanee – Stutzman Brothers Steakhouse: 1600 W. Market St., Nappanee. Thanksgiving Day Buffet, open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost: adults, $28.95; seniors (60+), $23.95; children (ages 4 to 12), $12.95; 3 and under, free. Reservations of all party sizes for 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. accepted by calling 574-773-4188. Walk-ins accepted. Choice of turkey, pot roast, ham and beans, pork loin, dressing, choice of vegetables, macaroni and cheese, rice, salad bar, Oreo dirt pudding and pies. The buffet closes at 4 p.m.
Bill’s Place: 2105 W. Western Ave., South Bend, 574-282-2002, will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. for breakfast and lunch.
Bob Evans: Locations in South Bend, Plymouth, Benton Harbor. Open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Available are four all-day breakfast options and the Premium Celebration Platter including turkey, ham, three sides, bread, slice of pie. Premium Platter is $18.99 and is available for dine-in, carryout or delivery. Children’s version available as a dine-in special for $8.99.
Capri Italian Restaurant: 50827 Princess Way, Granger, 574-271-1500. Open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a special turkey dinner for $25 or order from regular menu items. Reservations or walk-ins accepted.
Castaways Family Diner: 2281 N. Oak Drive, Plymouth, 574-936-3159, will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Christo’s Family Dining: 2227 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, 574-935-5100. Open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a full menu and some Thanksgiving specials.
Cracker Barrel: 110 Northpointe Blvd., Elkhart, 574-264-6963, will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Curve Café: 3407 Lincoln Way E., Mishawaka. Open 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. with full menu plus turkey or ham dinner with all the fixings. Reservations accepted at 574-252-5800. Walk-ins welcome.
Four Winds Casino “The Buffet”: 11111 Wilson Road, New Buffalo. Thanksgiving and Seafood Buffet open from noon to 8 p.m. Buffet includes the following stations: bread, soup, island salad bar, carving, American Bounty, seafood, Italian, Latin American, Asian, and desserts. Cost: adults, $58; children (ages 4 to 12), $29; 3 and under, free.
Four Winds Casino “The Buffet”: 3000 Prairie Ave., South Bend.
